Hello Kings and Queens,
My name is Laquel. I was born and raised in New York. At the age of 4, I unfortunately, lost my mother. Luckily, pops was willing and ready to take over both roles. Fortunately, my dad was amazing at taking care of us, but taking care of us also meant taking care of our hair. Appearance has meant so much to me since a young age. My dad was keeping me as beautiful as he could, but soon I discovered my love for doing hair. At the curious age of 5, my grandmother taught me how to braid. Even as a child I loved creating a beautiful hair style. The dolls I had could not get away from getting their hair done, soon my classmates, family, and friends were asking me to do their hair.
After high school, I went on to receive my AA in teaching and education from Queens Borough C.C. I still have so much love for teaching, however hair took over as a passion of mine. Coming into my adult years I finally made the decision to make cosmetology my career. So in 2014, I went to Cosmetology school, I couldn’t have made a better choice. I love everything about hair, from the way my clients feel afterwards, to the lessons I teach them on proper hair care, to creating and constructing a one of a kind unit. I live by “if my clients are happy, I’m happy”. Creativity is everything to me but I also specialize in healthy hair care and love to create styles while maintaining the integrity of the hair.
“Here for all, hair for all”, I adapted my tagline/slogan after working in my first hair salon, there I worked with all hair textures doing all different styles, everything from coloring, cutting, perming, trimming, etc you name it, I did it and I loved every minute of it.
I made the decision to branch out on my own by establishing my own salon because my passion goes beyond working in some one else’s salon. I wanted to begin to sell hair and hair care products because it is more convenient for my clients. My clients now will be able to purchase from one shop, instead of shopping around. Like I said above if my clients are happy I am happy.
Eventually I decided to include my passion for teaching into this business by offering Hair Classes from braiding to installations, passing my skills off to other individuals who would love to come to the industry and be successful. My ultimate long term goal is to open a cosmetology school for young entrepreneurs who enjoy creating just as much as I do, and hopefully be able to mentor them through their journey to success.
